The Gross Collection of France and Colonies, German Offices and Colonies, Italian States and Spain is a remarkable assemblage of highly desirable and seldom seen rarities of Western Europe and its Colonies. The auction of this collection by Spink Shreves was held in New York on 19 May 2010.

The highest priced item auctioned was a 1849 1Fr Light carmine on yellowish, a showpiece unused horizontal "face to face" tete-beche pair. It sold for US$190,000. The pre-sale estimate was US$235,000.

The next highest grossing item was a horizontal strip of three of the 1849 1Fr Pale vermilion "Vervelle" on yellowish. This is considered one of the most important strip in French philately. It sold for US$130,000 against a pre-sale estimate of US$100,000 to US$150,000.
