Tell a Friend How to use a hinge [ ¤¤¤åª© ]
Contributed by Stamp2 Staff Writers
We do not recommend using hinges to mount your mint stamps.

However, for collectors of used stamps who do not wish to use the modern 'plastic' mounts, using the old hinge is still the easiest and cheapest. Hinges are now sold ready folded and they are easily peeled should you wish to remove them.

Shown here are the proper steps to 'hinging' a stamp.
1.
Hinges comes ready
folded in packets of 1000
or more.
2.
Some hinges are not
folded, in which case
you need to fold them.
3.
Use a pair of tongs and
hold the hinge about a
quarter from the edge.
4.
Make sure the ungummed
side is facing you, fold
the hinge towards you.
5.
The smaller flap is the part
you will stick onto the back
of the stamp
6.
Lightly mositen the flap,
taking care not to put
too much water.
7.
Place the moisten flap on
the top back of the stamp
near the top.
8.
Press it firmly for a second
or two to let it stick.

9.
With a pair or tongs, lift
the other end of the hinge.
10.
Moisten just the end of
the hinge and not the
whole back.
11.
Position the stamp on
the place of the album
page where you want it.
13.
Press gently onto the stamp
to let the hinge stick onto
the page.
