There are a total of 8 values for this set which were issued between 1867
and 1872. The six lowest values, 2¢, 4¢, 6¢, 8¢, 12¢, 24¢, all have
the same head and inscribed circle but each has a different design in the
angles. The 32¢ and 96¢ are also similar with the exception of the
corners. It is on watermarked Crown CC paper and perforated 14.
The forgeries printings are poorly lithographed and appears coarse unlike the originals which are engraved
in De La Rue's best tyle. They are on unwatermarked thin white wove paper
and perforated 13. The dark horizontal lines of shadings in the central
oval goes right up to the inner outline of the name-oval. In the
originals, there is a distinct white space between these two. The chignon
and the first pearl of the coronet does not touch the edge of the shaded
lines of the background.

The forgeries of
the 4¢, 6¢, 8¢, 12¢ and 24¢ are all easily identified as they
are all created from a single plate. All have the same ornaments
of the 2¢ corners. |

This genuine corner ornament is very
finely engraved. The line at the bottom of the ornament tapers
slightly towards the right. The ornament in the forgery is coarse
and ill-shaped.
|
 |
In this genuine
image, there is space between the line under POSTAGE and
the center background lines. In a forgery, the bottom
stroke of the A runs into the G. |
