Robert passed away on 1 February 2002. He was awarded the Lichtenstein Award in 1982 and the Luff Award in 1983. He entered the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1984. He specialises in the French Colonies and written many books and articles.

Derek Palmer, RDP, FRPSL
Mr. Palmer passed away on 6 September 2001 in Santiago de Chile at the age of 94. He was born in Kent, England, on 22 August 1907 and settled in Chile in 1924 and lived there ever since. He was on the Board of Directors of the Sociedad Filatèlica de Chile for over 50 years.

Robert Samuel
One of New Zealand's most prominent philatelists and president of the Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand, Robert Samuel, has died 10 November, aged 61. An expert in postal stationery, he is regarded as a leader in his subject.

Dr. Varro Eugene Tyler, FRPSL
Varro Tyler died August 22, 2001 at the age of 74. He is best known for authoritative published works on forgeries, including Philatelic Forgers, Their Lives and Works, monographs on the forgeries of Korea and Japan and a fortnightly "Focus on Forgeries" feature in Linn's Stamp News.

He was recognised as an Elder Statesman of Philately in 1989 and in 1998 was awarded the Luff Award for Distinguished Philatelic Research, both by the American Philatelic Society.

Sir John Marriott, RDP, FRPSL
Sir John Marriot, who has died aged 78, was Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection from 1969 to 1995.

Sir Marriot was the fourth holder of the Keepership and had been an avid stamp collector since the age of 12.He was a greatly respected figure in the philatelic world. He amassed a collection, virtually complete, of Trinidad stamps issued between 1847 and 1913 and was the author of A Philatelic History of Trinidad to 1862 (1963).

John Oliver Griffiths, RDP, FRPSL
John was very active in the stamp world. He was a Hon. Secretary of the Royal Philatelic Society of London as early as 1973. He was also an ex-Vice President of the GBPS and was on the RSPL Expert Committee.

His collection of Great Britain won him the Grand Prix d'Honneur plus Large Gold at STOCKHOLMIA 74. At BANGKOK 83, with his collection of South Australia, he won a Large Gold plus the Grand Prix d'Honneur.

Dr. Edric C. Druce
Ed was elected as Director of the FIP Board in 1998 at the Milan Congress, but had been active before that as FIP juror since Philakorea 1988. He was for many years the leading person of organised philately in Australia and was in charge of the two last FIP exhibitions in Australia, namely Australia 99 in Melbourne and Olymphilex 2000 in Sydney. As a collector and exhibitor Ed was always experimenting with new material and planned to exhibit Aden Postal Stationery at one of the next FIP exhibitions.

Robert de Violini
Robert de Violini, 74, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004.

His hobbies included philately, writing, editing and computers. He was member of the Channel Island PC Users Group, a 34-year member of the American Philatelic Society, and a member of many other philatelic organization. He served as president of several, including the APS Writers Unit, American Society of Polar Philatelists, the Philatelic Computing Study Group and the Federated Stamp Club of Southern California.

The Federated Philatelic Clubs of Southern California presented him with its Distinguished Philatelic Service award in 1984; the Arizona State Philatelic Hall of Fame recognized him with the Phoenix Award in 1987. In 1997, the America Philatelic Society presented him with its Luff Award for service to the society. This service included 12 years as the society's affiliates coordinator. His philatelic activities included volunteering as organizer and executive director of OLYMPHILEX 84, held as part of the Olympic Arts Festival in Los Angeles in 1984. In 1988, he served as U.S. commissioner for OLYMPHILEX 88 in Seoul, South Korea. He also served as secretary for PACIFIC 97, the world philatelic exhibition held in San Francisco, where he oversaw the first international display of philatelic computer software. He was an accredited philatelic literature judge.

At the time of his death, he was webmaster for the Philatelic Computing Study Group and SESCAL, an annual stamp exhibition in Southern California.

Harry Sutherland, RDP,FRPSL
Harry Sutherland, passed away Tuesday February 14, 2006. Harry was Canada's pre-eminent Philatelist: he signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists. He was Chairman of the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation. He was the longest serving President and thereafter Secretary of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and was an International Judge under F.I.P.

Kenneth Chapman
It is sad to report that Kenneth Chapman died peacefully 28 November 2006 at the age of 96. He was probably best known as Editor of "Stamp Collecting Weekly" from 1951 to 1977. He had a long association with the old British Philatelic Association (being some time Public Relations Officer and Editor of its journal "Philately") and the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain being the recipient of the Congress Medal in 1968. He had been a member of the Council of the Philatelic Traders Society. He had worked with Albert H Harris on "Philatelic Magazine and was for many years the Philatelic Correspondent of "The Times". His long involvement with philatelic exhibitions included the International events in 1950, 1960, "Philympia 1970" and "London 1980" as well as Stampex and the British Philatelic Exhibition. Kenneth was President of the Croydon Philatelic Society 1955 to 1957 and from 1967. He was a knowledgeable and much liked philatelic gentleman.

Wilson Hulme
Wilson Hulme passed away 7 January 2007 of a heart attack.

He made important contributions to philatelic scholarship and was a "natural" as Curator of Philately at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in Washington. He was the current President of the US Classics Society and had been honoured as a US Classics Society Distinguished Philatelist. He had also received the prestigious Susan McDonald Award for his article Plaiting Baltimore Postmarks 1851-1861 which appeared in the Chronicle November, 2002.
